Great Product - Slight Instal Issues
I love Baja Designs products.; well made, great reputation, and helpful customer service.
When it came to selecting a light, the biggest criteria was that it didn't jackin' up my Raptor with holes, bending, or grinding. The selection was slim! The Double Stealth was a good value for the amount of light and was supposed to be a bolt-on install.
The lights and output are just what I expected. Unfortunately, the install didn’t go smoothly. Not mentioning the ridiculous length and location of the pre-wired pigtails, I’ll focus on the install.
First, GET THE LATEST INSTRUCTIONS FROM BD! Mine weren’t. I found out later, that they’d changed the instructions to NOT remove the bumper pod. Furthermore, they now provide a TEMPLATE for trimming the pod. Too late…I already had gone through the pain of removing and REINSTALLING mine.
BD provides nicely designed brackets, wiring and connectors. They also provide nice trim strips that are fastened to the bumper to hide the gap above and below the bars.
Pre-existing holes are used to mount the brackets with the addition of Fender washers to span two large (1") holes in the frame. This caused me headaches because, the washer didn't span the hole unless I shifted the bracket upwards which then would cause upper light to hit the trim plate screws if I tilted the light upward.
Finally, I removed the whole assembly for the third time and bought some nice stainless cap screws to match the ones provided for the lower trim plate. I removed the stock screws and speed-clips from the upper tabs and reinstalled the trim piece using the new cap screws. Better clearance…and, for the final touch, I re-aligned the whole unit again. I think everything is good now.
These lights are really great looking, and I did something real cool. I made the upper CLEAR and the lower AMBER; separately switched. I now have the option of using one or both. Plus, I have the option of changing the lens colors, or even changing to cornering/flood optics!!!
Definitely recommended. Just, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, get the latest instructions, and pay attention to alignment as you go!
Other than the install issues, they'd be a solid 5 stars.
